Fiat Concours at VVC

9 Fiats arrived for the Fiat Concours at VVC show grounds. Lancia were having their concours next door, so the comparisions were good to see.

Wulf Krahmann's 500 Cub surprised all, arriving and looking good, less than a year after Wulf bought the car, and at 1954 was the oldest car there, having a good showing too.

A few of our exceptional cars in the club were not able to make the day, this threw the results quite open and opened up some of the circular debate that we have had before, restored vs original with patina vs newer cars.

Tackling that first; the Fiat Club is open to all Fiats and whether the car is 100 years old or 1 day old, all compete on the same basis.  Where we have a large entry field we can open up to multiple classes, however with 9 cars present, it makes this difficult.  The results below show just how close this year was, and the individual score sheets will show the little things that can make all the difference, as an inspection of some of the Lancia's on show next door would have shown.

This year Erika's Grande Punto T-Jet got top honours overall despite being a 2 year old daily driver that lives on a dirt road. A good car wash close to the event helped. Last year by comparison with some stiffer competition, Erika's car was a middle order placing even though it is was then 7 months old. In previous years, we have had similar cars where Jeff and Carlton Willetts's then new Uno Turbo's were not able to displace a well restored to original car.

This year Jose Bico's ex Pixie Nash X1/9 came in a very credible second place to be the best of the classic cars and very close to top points overall. Jose has really done a great job in restoring the car.

So hopefully next year we see 40 - 50 cars for this important club show case, there was a lot of interest from VVC members and the public, with the promise of a few new members, to help up the game.

Gloves off for 2012??  New vs Restored vs Patina??

Should be fun.
